Upon successful conclusion of this course, the students should be able to:

1.       Understand the fundamental concepts of electric motor drive systems fed by power electronic converters.

2.       Understand the behavior of electric motor drive systems fed by power electronic converters.

3.       Design an electric motor drive and its control strategy.

4.       Derive the dynamic model of a given electric drive system, including the motor, its power converter and subsystems.

Electric motor drive systems fed by power electronic converters – application oriented design – induction motors (steady state, bipolar model, parameter estimation) – ac brushless motors (steady state, state equations, parameter estimation) – dc brushless motors (operation, modelling, control).
