Through the lectures and work that will take place within this course , the aim is to achieve the following learning outcomes

- The acquisition of the necessary knowledge background and know-how regarding the models, technologies, design principles, architectures-implementations and performance that govern the main mixed (analog / digital) circuits and structures, such as analog-digital and digital-analog converters, analog filters, oscillators etc. that make up a modern electronic system (and especially its analog subsystem) as well as their noisy performance and behavior

-The acquisition of those skills that will enable students to efficiently assimilate the afore-described know-how and apply in the appropriate way and creatively the acquired knowledge so as  to solve possible arising problems as well as to improve the design, implementation, etc. of important parameters concerning critical mixed subsystems of a modern electronic system

-The acquisition of those competencies, by combining the above-mentioned knowledge and skills, so as to enable responsible and autonomous decision-making and taking of appropriate actions in the field (e.g. in real  working conditions) with regard to the correct evaluation - improvement of the critical subsystems (of mixed nature)  which define either an existing modern electronic system or its design and implementation so as to meet the specifications of the overall system

The specific course aims at the acquisition of the following capabilities:

- Search for, analysis and synthesis of data and information, with the use of the necessary technology

-Signal Converters: Characteristics of Signal Converters (offset and gain errors, monotonicity, quantization noise, etc.). Analog to Digital Conversion Methods, such as binary weighted elements, R-string techniques, thermometric methods and their performance. Digital to Analog Conversion Methods and their performance including: counting type ADCs, successive approximation ADCs, integration ADCs, flash ADCs, subrange-pipelined ADCs, folded ADCs, Sigma Delta ADCs

-Analog Filters: Analog Filters Characteristics and Classification, 1st order Analog Filters, 2^nd order Analog Filters and ways of implementing them: RLC implementations, Integration based biquads, Biquads using simulated inductors, Implementation of Butterworth and Chebyshev Analog Filters

-Oscillators: Basic operating principles, Ring Oscillators, Harmonic Oscillators, Phase noise in Oscillators

-Noise in circuits-performance of circuits under noise: Noise in Analog Circuits, BJT Noise Model, FET Noise Model, Noise Figure, Noise in circuits

Appropriate combination of slides along with writing on black board when it is necessary to analyze specific important points of the lecture

TEACHING METHODS

The manner and methods of teaching are described in detail.

Lectures, seminars, laboratory practice, fieldwork, study and analysis of bibliography, tutorials, placements, clinical practice, art workshop, interactive teaching, educational visits, project, essay writing, artistic creativity, etc.

The student's study hours for each learning activity are given as well as the hours of non-directed study according to the principles of the ECTS

STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Description of the evaluation procedure

Language of evaluation, methods of evaluation, summative or conclusive, multiple choice questionnaires, short-answer questions, open-ended questions, problem solving, written work, essay/report, oral examination, public presentation, laboratory work, clinical examination of patient, art interpretation, other

Specifically-defined evaluation criteria are given, and if and where they are accessible to students.

The language of evaluation is Greek, but under specific conditions it could also be English e.g. if the course is also attended by foreign students from Erasmus

The evaluation methods to be employed  are as follows:

-Possible preparation (on a voluntary basis) of a small project on subjects related to the course in the form of a scientific report (15% of the final grade)

-Midterm course (written) assessment  consisting  from a series of questions with short theoretical and / or technical answers as well as  problem solving ones (20% of the final grade)

- Final course examination - evaluation consisting  from a series of questions with short theoretical and / or technical answers as well as  problem solving ones (at least 65% of the final grade)

In all the above cases, and in particular in the two written course assessments, the evaluation criteria are clearly defined (e.g. for each question the percentage score is given) while there is full accessibility to the reports/exams to  all students
