The students that attend the class will have a theoretical and practical principles of modern operating systems together with a thorough analysis of the progress achieved and the engineering reasons for these.

Will have with the use of special recitation and projects the ability to use optimally the main capabilities of operating systems for the execution and collaboration of  processes.

Searching for information and data in order to fully understand the various approaches of all modern operating systems.  Ability to learn new issues and features in order to make the appropriate decisions and enforce the productive and constructive requirements of a fast changing world.

Definitions, historical progress, main components of an operating system. Operating System Structures. Concurrent processes, semaphores. Process communication. Memory management, paging, virtual memory. CPU scheduling, deadlocks and deadlock prevention, avoidance and detection. Secondary storage management, file systems, protection. Distribution and parallel systems. Introduction to the Unix operating system.

TEACHING METHODS

The manner and methods of teaching are described in detail.

Lectures, seminars, laboratory practice, fieldwork, study and analysis of bibliography, tutorials, placements, clinical practice, art workshop, interactive teaching, educational visits, project, essay writing, artistic creativity, etc.

The student's study hours for each learning activity are given as well as the hours of non-directed study according to the principles of the ECTS

Specifically-defined evaluation criteria are given, and if and where they are accessible to students.

The tests are in Greek with a possibility to be given in English can provide a grade up to 100%. The test includes theoretical and practical questions.

The exercises and their presentation can contribute up to 20% of the final grade.
