Lesson on Basic Concepts of Digital Communications. Elective course in the Department of Telecommunications and Information Technology (T & T) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Various skills are being developed.

PREREQUISITE COURSES:

Knowledge of the lessons is required:

• Computer Communication Networks (ECE_Y410) (4th semester).

• Communication Systems (ECE_Y604) (5th semester).

 (However, all the required concepts are explained in the Traditions of the course.)

At the end of this course the student should:

• has embedded the building block diagram of a digital communications system.

• has embedded the basic concepts of Information Theory and the Function of the Source Encoder.

• has embedded the design of the optimal modulator under AWGN noise conditions.

• Has understood the Trellis diagram and the Viterbi algorithm.

The student will develop skills:

• In the source encoder and decoder design

• AWGN channel-modulator-demodulator design.

• In calculating error probabilities in each design

DELIVERY
Face-to-face, Distance learning, etc.

Lectures (3 hours per week including 1 hour seminar) using the PowerPoint or, in the case of seminar, a chalk on the blackboard (or, marker on a whiteboard).

The students are called to do homework, optionally.

The manner and methods of teaching are described in detail.
