Students that take this course:

·       Have proven knowledge and understanding of complex microelectronic amplifiers (multistage amplifiers, differential and operational amplifiers, power amplifiers).

·       Have proven knowledge and understanding of simple and complex digital microelectronic circuits (inverters, gates, comparators, coders. Decoders, multiplexers, demultiplexers, memories, Flipflops, shift registers, counters)

·       Can recognize the usability of an electronic circuit

·       Can analyze a complex amplifier or a digital circuit and in addition to design another one on the basis of its usability and using technical specifications

·       Understand the concept of integration and of minimization of dimensions of modern analog and digital circuits

·       Have developed these competences and knowledge that are necessary to continue in the design of advanced circuits and Electronic systems with a high value of autonomy.

In other words, in this class students acquire knowledge in analog and digital integrated circuits such that they are able to recognize, combine, design and chose the most suitable structure for the implementation of a specific functionality of an electronic circuit.

Students can also proceed in choosing a specific circuit/ system in connection with modern technological achievements taking into account performance, cost, power consumption, integration capability and functional adequacy. They can also compare implementation technologies and propose design methods for the implementation of electronic circuits.

Analysis, synthesis and design of analog and digital integrated circuits and systems using also the necessary simulation technologies and Computer –Aided Design (CAD) tools.

Adaptation in new demands decision making in design. Autonomous work towards production of novel circuit structures. Introduction to creative thinking and effectiveness in design and development of electronic circuits and systems.

Multistage amplifiers, current mirrors and current sources, differential amplifiers, operational amplifiers, frequency response, feedback, stability of feedback amplifiers, output stages and power amplifiers, analog integrated circuits, switched capacitor circuits.

Bipolar digital circuits (TTL, Schottky TTL and ECL). NMOS and CMOS digital circuits. Special emphasis is given in the design of gates and the study of delay and power consumption. Review, from a circuit perspective, of combinational digital systems (adders, comparators, coders, decoders, multiplexers, demultiplexers, ROM memories) and of sequential digital systems (FlipFlops, shift registers, synchronous and asynchronous counters). Monostable and astable multivibrators and applications. Special emphasis is given to modern circuit structures of the above digital circuits. Design of static and dynamic digital CMOS circuits. RAM and EEPROM memories.

The course is reinforced by compulsory Laboratory exercises which focus to the study and design of analog and digital circuits on the Lab bench and by using tools like SPICE, FPGA platforms, HDL languages and advanced measurement equipment.

TEACHING METHODS

The manner and methods of teaching are described in detail.

Lectures, seminars, laboratory practice, fieldwork, study and analysis of bibliography, tutorials, placements, clinical practice, art workshop, interactive teaching, educational visits, project, essay writing, artistic creativity, etc.

The student's study hours for each learning activity are given as well as the hours of non-directed study according to the principles of the ECTS

Specifically-defined evaluation criteria are given, and if and where they are accessible to students.

Student evaluation is done in the Greek language (with possibility to be done in English as well) as follows:

a)     One written exam at the end of the semester which determines 60% of the overall mark. The exam includes  short-answer questions and problem solving.

b)     Three (3) written assignments (exercise solving) contribute a 20% of the final mark

c)     Lab exam mark contributes 10% of the overall mark, lab performance and lab reports contribute another 10% of the overall mark.

The final mark is determined by the following formula:

Final Mark=Max[(3 assignmentsx20%+ final examx60%+ Lab markx20%), (Final examx80%= Lab markx 20%)]
