Description

Overview, introduction to semiconductor physics (basic notions of crystallography, crystal growth techniques), electronic properties of semiconductors (energy bands, E-k diagram, nearly-free-electron model, density of states, Fermi-Dirac distribution), optical properties of semiconductors (band-to-band absorption and emission rates), p-n junction, light-emitting diodes, semi-conductor laser amplifiers, semiconductor lasers (static and dynamic properties), photodiodes, optical modulators, opto-electronics applications with emphasis in optical communications.
